Who Needs To Complete An EUSR SHEA Gas Course?

Anyone who needs to access operational sites in the gas industry as part of their job is required to complete SHEA Gas training.

This includes operatives, engineers, supervisors, managers, contractors, and site visitors. An EUSR SHEA Gas Card grants site access, acting as a ‘passport’.

  • Modules

The EUSR Gas Course covers the same content as the SHEA Core qualification, plus three additional modules tailored to gas environments:

Module 1 - Understanding our workplace responsibilities:
the first module of the SHEA Gas Course explores the safety legislation governing utilities work environments, and the responsibility delegates have to keep workplaces safe and compliant

Module 2 - Understanding the effects of our work on the environment:
the next core module aims to enhance delegates’ understanding of environmental awareness and sustainability

Module 3 - Identifying and controlling risks:
you’ll learn how to spot risks impacting your work environment, and how to mitigate these to keep colleagues, your workplace, and the general public safe

Module 4 - Common hazards in the workplace:
SHEA gas training also covers common physical hazards in the workplace, and related control measures

Module 5 - Occupational health hazards:
next, you’ll learn to identify and reduce the risk of occupational health hazards

Module 6 - Responding to emergencies:
the EUSR Gas Course goes through the procedures and actions to follow in the event of a workplace emergency

Module 14 - Highway working and excavations (gas):
during this module, you’ll learn the necessary procedures for working on gas infrastructure, covering everything from conducting safe excavations to managing highway traffic and public safety

Module 15 - Pressure regulating installations:
to gain a SHEA gas certificate, delegates need to understand the safety precautions required for working on pressure regulation installations. This module looks at the journey of gas through the network, and common risks and hazards

Module 16 - Safety in premises:
the final module of the EUSR SHEA Gas Course focuses on how to work safely in both residential and commercial environments. This covers everything from risk management to clear communication to ensure operations remain as safe as possible

  • Assessment & Certification

At the end of each SHEA Gas training module, you’ll be required to complete a brief assessment. A pass is required for each one in order to complete the course and gain a SHEA Gas Certificate. This takes the form of a virtual card, which will be available within three business days via the Vircarda app. A plastic card is also available if required - this usually arrives within five working days.

Frequently asked questions

Get In Touch To Learn More About The SHEA Gas Course

The Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) is the registered body for utilities skills and training in the UK. Working with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the EUSR sets the standards for SHEA training to ensure all utilities sector workers have the knowledge and skills needed to keep operations safe and compliant.

SHEA stands for Safety, Health & Environmental Awareness. This training is mandatory for all utilities sector workers in order to gain site access. Upon successful course completion, delegates receive a ‘SHEA passport’, which demonstrates they have the knowledge and skills to keep themselves, their colleagues, work environment, and the general public safe.

Core SHEA training is designed to provide a basic understanding of their safety responsibilities, with industry-specific courses focused on:

There are no formal requirements for taking a SHEA Gas Course. Delegates do need to have good written and spoken English, and must provide a form of government-issued photo ID, but you do not need previous industry experience or specific qualifications.

When you choose to take the SHEA Gas Course online with Four Storey Training, the course lasts for eight hours, from 9am until 5pm. The course runs twice weekly, on alternating days, so there’s a session to suit every schedule, including weekend sessions.

It costs £155 (+VAT) for the Four Storey Training online SHEA Gas Course. Price includes eight hours of tutor-led teaching, plus your SHEA Gas Card. No hidden admin fees.

An EUSR SHEA Gas Card is valid for five years from the date of issue. As the five-year mark approaches, SHEA Gas training must be renewed to keep your skills up to date and your workplace compliant.

Stay compliant and maintain site access by ensuring your EUSR SHEA Gas training is renewed every five years. If you need to replace a lost or damaged card, this can be ordered from the EUSR directly. You will need to provide your EUSR ID and pay a replacement fee.

An EUSR SHEA Gas Card is fully CSCS-accredited under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. This means that your SHEA Gas Card will act as a passport for accessing gas infrastructure on construction sites, without the requirement for a separate CSCS Card.

I deliver the online SHEA Gas training via Microsoft Teams, so all you need to complete the course is a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet that has access to Microsoft Teams.
